Mo Dao Zu Shi or popularly known as the Grandmaster of Demonic Cultivation is scheduled to return for its second season this July 2019. While we are excited for the upcoming anime and the return of our favorite characters, the teaser trailer for Grandmaster of Demonic Cultivation season 2 dropped some major spoilers from the novel. And, many people like me can’t wait to check out the original novel.
I’m sure you’re eager to see what happens next. The original Mo Dao Zu Shi魔道祖师 novel by Mo Xiang Tong Xiu 墨香铜臭 is actually a short one. However, the novel jumps back and forth from the present and the past every few chapters. To be honest, the donghua season one only picked the flashback memories in the novel and rewrote a lot of subplots and scenes to make it logical and complete. If you’re feeling confused when reading novel chapters, I hope this post will help you to understand the timeline of Mo Dao Zu Shi and be prepared to watch the upcoming anime show.

1. Jiang Fengmian found Wei Wuxian (9) on the street and took him home. Wei Wuxian met Jiang Cheng (8) and Jiang Yanli (12).
2. Wei Wuxian (15) and Jiang Chen (14) went to the Gusu Lan Sect. Wei Wuxian met Lan Wangji (15) and started joking around him. And then he was taken home because of the fight with Jin Zixuan.
3. Wei Wuxian (16) met Wen Ning (16) and took off Lan Wangji‘s white forehead ribbon. The Wen Sect forced the Lan Sect to burn down the Cloud Recesses.
4. Wei Wuxian (17) and Lan Wangji (17) killed the Tortoise of Slaughter.
5. The invasion of the Lotus Pier. Jiang Fengmian and Madam Yu were both killed. Jiang Cheng lost his Golden Core. Wen Qing helped to transfer Wei Wuxian‘s core to Jiang Chen, by Wei Wuxian‘s request. And then Wei Wuxian disappeared into the Burial Mounds.
6. The Sunshot Campaign. The debut of the Yiling Patriarch. Jin Guangyao undercovered in Nightless City, saved Nie Mingjue and killed Wen Ruohan.
7. Wei Wuxian destroyed one half of the Stygian Tiger Seal and refused to give it to Jin Guangshan.
8. The Night hunt on the Baifeng Mountain. Lan Wangji (20) kissed Wei Wuxian (20) secretly. Jin Zixuan proposed to Jiang Yanli (23).
9. Wei Wuxian found Wen Ning dead and protected the Wen remnants. After that, Wei Wuxian formally left the Yunmeng Jiang Sect.
10. Wen Ning became the first fierce corpse to retain his sense of self. Known as the Ghost General. Jiang Yanli and Jin Zixuan got married.
11. (One year later) Wen Ning lost control and accidentally killed Jin Zixuan. Wei Wuxian (21) escaped to the Nightless City. Jiang Yanli (24) died for protecting Wei Wuxian.
12. Lan Wangji found Wei Wuxian heavily wounded. He protected Wei Wuxian and sent him back to the Burial Mounds. Lan Wangji went back to the Gusu Lan Sect and received punishments.
13. (Three months later) Death of Wei Wuxian in the first siege of the Burial Mounds. Lan Wangji saved baby Wen Yuan (Lan Sizhui) and took him back to the Gusu Lan Sects.
———————Incarnation————————
Nine years later, Wei Wuxian incarnated into the body of Mo Xuanyu (27). He met Lan Wangji(34), Jiang Chen (33), Lan Sizhui (16) and Jin Ling (14). Then they started a thrilling yet hilarious journey.

Hi Zhi, this is a good read. Since I love spoilers, I darely read this one and I felt relieved and satisfied with how you presented the flashbacks. Anyway, I am more than excited to watch Grandmaster of Demonic Cultivation season 2. Hoping everything will be okay and it'll be out soon. 🙂
