Yes, at the bottom line, this is a XianXia story where exorcism exists and battling against demons, and supernatural phenomena is like a child’s play and a common game. The action were solid giving a domineering fight scenes that would leave someone speechless. Why speechless? It is because it feels like you’re not only watching an epic fight scenes but witnessing a form of art that it unique only to this anime although it exists in the plot of other stories.

The sound may be its weakest point especially as an anime viewers who get used to Japanese language, listening to another language which is Chinese is quite difficult. In my personal experience, it is really hard to follow the English subtitles due to the fast-paced of Chinese language. Nonetheless, it’s just a matter of time. Once you’ve get accustomed to it, it’ll be seriously easy. Yet, the music of this anime is on a different league of its own. I really love just how epic it sounds and the fact that it is staying so true to the Chinese music style. I felt like I am watching some scenes from those legendary literary works of some renown classic Chinese author. In the end, I am personally attracted to the anime’s opening theme song “Drunken Dream of a Past Life” by famous Mandopop singer Terry Lin. A majestic and nostalgic song that invoke one’s heroism and seriously befitting the main character Wei Wuxian.

It was revealed that Grandmaster of Demonic Cultivation is returning for its second season in 2019 and is one of our top recommended Chinese anime shows of 2019. However, it won’t be out until July next year. Thus, it might be quite a long period of time for us to wait. Then, I guess the best that we could do is to check the novel first and obviously follow Wei Wuxian and Lan Wangji’s story which is no less better than the anime.

  1. It was lacking some gory scenes and a bit of romance (not that bad tough because the author went full fanservice-mode near the end) but it's overall a good adaptation, and it had good voice acting too!
