Time sure flies so fast, it seemed that 2021 had only started a few months ago but now, we’re actually in its 2nd half. It has been an exciting year for Chinese anime fans and we still have plenty of surprises coming over for us. Have you guys enjoyed all the donghua that we had so far? Can you tell us which one is your favorite and which one did surprise you the most?
In line with Chinese animation in 2021, I am truly captivated by several titles that we had this year which include LINK CLICK, The Island of Siliang, Thousand Autumns, Perfect World, and Battle Through the Heavens Season 4. Coincidentally, these Chinese anime also had the best opening theme that we had this year so far. Some had offered a current and modern beat, while some remained with the typical emotional Chinese ballad.
So, I’ll be sharing 6 of my favorite Chinese anime opening of 2021 in this post. They are from some of my favorite titles, and even if I wasn’t particularly a fan of the story of some of them (actually just one), the opening theme sure did give some light and exciting vibes as if welcoming you to a fantastic adventure.
My Favorite Chinese Anime Opening of 2021
LINK CLICK OP1
Shiguang Daili Ren | Our boys from the Time Photo Studio and our favorite landlady sure did excellent hand movements and dance routine in the LINK CLICK opening theme which surely sounds so modern. LINK CLICK’s opening theme is titled “Dive Back in Time” by Bai Sha JAWS, and the title is a reference to the donghua’s story in a nutshell.
The Island of Siliang OP1
The opening theme of The Island of Siliang is like your usual Chinese ballad, it’s filled with so many emotions while also showing some clips from the actual donghua that features several characters and scenes.
Thousand Autumns OP1
Thousand Autumn’s opening song is titled Shan He Jian Xin by Zhuo Rui which is a direct reference to the Chinese title of the series. The opening animation highlighted the key characters from the story and several significant scenes and fight scenes, that somehow reveal some spoilers.
Battle Through The Heavens Season 4 OP1
First of all, it took me quite a while before I finally started to fell in love with the Battle Through The Heavens Season 4 opening song. I used to think that it was quite boring compared to what we had from the 3rd season. Yet, the first opening song of Battle Through the Heavens Season 4 had been ecstatic to my ears and one that I couldn’t skip at all when watching a new episode.
Perfect World OP1
Here’s another upbeat Chinese anime opening of 2021 and that is from Perfect World which sounds like any other that we can find from a xinxia story. It’s energetic and as vibrant as the exciting story of Perfect World, now it did reminds me a lot of much Chinese cultivation anime now.
Country of Rare Treasure OP1
There’s some kind of mystical feels that I often get when watching the opening theme song and animated sequence of the Country of Rare Treasure. While I am not a big fan of the story, the music in this donghua is all captivating, especially the opening and the ending theme songs.
Alright, so these are 6 of my favorite Chinese anime opening of 2021; albeit there are some more that I also enjoyed. However, these six had left quite a good impression on me than the others. However, the following are some of my favorites too.

- Jue ding Opening
- Memory of Changán Season 2 (the same OP from the 1st season)
