After the success of the anime adaptation of Reki Kawahara’s Sword Art Online light novel series and several game franchise that were based from it, an anime film project for Sword Art Online has been finally green-lit. The Sword Art Online anime film project was announced during a stage event at the Dengeki Bunko Autumn Festival 2015 that was held last Sunday. It was accompanied by an announcement video from Dengeki Online featuring the highlights from the previous entries of Sword Art Onlineseries as well as the revelation of the upcoming film project.
Tomohiko Ito, the director of two TV anime series of Sword Art Online as well as the anime special returns to direct the film project at A-1 Pictures. The Sword Art Online film project will be a completely new anime and Shingo Adachi is back to design the characters. The brand new story for Sword Art Online anime film is written by Kawahara.
A new soundtrack collection that features 131 songs titled Sword Art Online Music Collection was also revealed during the event. The soundtrack collection is scheduled for ship in Japan on January 27, 2016. The collection features music from the anime series by Yuki Kajiura together with previously tracks on four CD that wasn’t release. It was accompanied by a bonus Blu-ray Disc which is the footage from Kajiura’s live performance at the “Sword Art Online: Sing All Overtures” event held last February 1, 2015.
