The Girl from the Other Side, WIT Studio’s new feature-length animated project was launched as a Kickstarter campaign last March 11, 2021 and with 9 days left until its deadline on May 9, the campaign already reached over 500% growth at $139,677 from its initial goal of $27,481. “The Girl From The Other Side” Kickstarter campaign is for an original anime DVD with one-hour length animation which is adapted from Nagabe’s manga series Totsukuni no Shōjo (The Girl From the Other Side: Siúil, a Rún).
WIT Studio previously created a 10-minute anime adaptation of the manga in 2019 which was directed by Yūtarō Kubo and Satomi Maiya. It was invited to 9 international festivals including Ottawa International Animation Festival, Fantasia International Film Festival, and Scotland Loves Anime Film Festival. It was mentioned that WIT Studio tested a new type of animation for it which was called, ‘new expression technique’.
The project will be a longer adaptation of The Girl From the Other Side: Siúil, a Rún, a manga series written and illustrated by Nagabe and was published in 2015 by MAG Garden. The full-length OAD will be bundled on March 10, 2022 together with the manga’s bonus volume.
WIT Studio envisioned The Girl from the Other Side as a new attempt to create an original, unique masterpiece that resonates with the original work and its expressions which is not confirmed to the framework of manga. Furthermore, they aspire to produced an animated work that is NOT just bound by the framework of animation. The Girl from the Other Side is also a project for them to determine their constant concepts and innovative ideas through consistencies.

The Girl from the Other Side Story
“The Girl from the Other Side” is a dark fantasy, the story of a world in which a human girl Shiva and a cursed, non-human “Teacher” live.
Plot
Shiva, an eccentric young girl, is abandoned in a forest filled with beasts that can inflict heavy curses in one touch. Shiva meets a beast who is much nicer than the others whom she calls Teacher. Teacher tells Shiva that her aunt is coming to get her while in reality, Shiva’s “auntie”, as Shiva calls her, was the one who abandoned her. Shiva sneaks away to find her auntie but soldiers from the human-inhabited area outside the forest find her and assume that Shiva is a monster in disguise. Teacher saves Shiva, but she still has so many questions. In the middle of the night, Shiva awakens to find that a beast, hoping to curse Shiva, has snuck into the house. The beast touches Shiva, inflicting its curse on her. Teacher finds the beast and gets rid of it, but that night, Shiva dreams she is searching for her auntie. In Shiva’s dream, her arm slowly turns into a black, webbed claw.
Cast & Characters
The Girl from the Other Side features two veteran and popular voice actors nowadays – Jun Fukuyama as Teacher, and Rie Takahashi as Shiva. They will reprise their respective roles from the short anime in 2019.
