It’s time to get ready for a feelsy trip as the king of slice-of-life anime, Natsume’s Book of Friends is getting an anime film in 2018. The announcement was made on the newly launched website by Shueisha for Natsume Yuujinchou anime film which is slated to premiere in 2018. It was also confirmed the voice actors Hiroshi Kamiya and Kazuhiko Inoue will return to reprise their roles as Takashi Natsume and Nyanko-sensei respectively in the upcoming film. In addition, studio Shuka is also coming back to animate the film after their works on Natsume Yuujinchou Go and Natsume Yuujinchou Roku.
A teaser illustration has been revealed on the website too.
Natsume’s Book of Friends Synopsis
The anime seasons and Midorikawa’s original manga revolve around Natsume, a boy who has been able to see yōkai since he was little. Unfortunately, humans shun him, and there is not much fondness between him and yōkai either. One day, he inherits a Yūjin-Chō (“Book of Friends”) from his grandmother. The book is actually full of contracts that his grandmother made to trap yōkai. As one yōkai after another shows up, Natsume tries to release or help them — even while many of them seek vengeance on him.
Although it’s just speculation, some fans are concluding that after the release of Natsume’s Book of Friends anime film, a possible 7th season for the series might be coming and this may also be the last. Whether this speculation is true or not, one thing is sure for now, the upcoming film together with our favorite Natsume-sama and Nyanko-sensei is going to be a dramatic ride of feels and learning experiences. On the other hand, couldn’t we agree to have a glimpse of Natsume’s childhood or his grandparent’s history in the film? This is a part of the story that fans are really excited to see, nonetheless, a perfect way to narrate it is via a theatrical release.
