The Aniplex Online Fest 2024 brought exciting news for anime fans with the announcement of a new original anime series titled Virgin Punk. Produced by the renowned animation studio Shaft, known for their work on acclaimed titles like Madoka Magica and Nisekoi, Virgin Punk promises to deliver a visually stunning and captivating experience.
About Virgin Punk
Virgin Punk marks the return of legendary animator Yasuomi Umetsu, who has been absent from the anime scene for ten years since directing Wizard Barristers: Benmashi Cecil in 2014. Umetsu’s iconic style and innovative storytelling are sure to leave a lasting impression on viewers.
The series will be directed by Umetsu himself, with Yuuya Takahashi (Lupin III: Part IV) serving as series composition and scriptwriter. The animation team is led by Genichirou Abe (Kizumonogatari I: Tekketsu-hen), Shinya Takahashi (Fate/stay night Movie: Unlimited Blade Works), and Maho Kando (Fate/strange Fake: Whispers of Dawn), ensuring a high level of quality and visual appeal.
Virgin Punk will follow the story of Ubu, a young woman who finds herself thrust into a dangerous world as a bounty hunter. As she navigates the chaotic and unpredictable environment, she encounters a variety of powerful and eccentric individuals who will shape her destiny.
The series is set to premiere in early Summer 2025 with the first installment, Clockwork Girl, hitting theaters in Cine Libre Ikebukuro in Tokyo and Theater Umeda in Osaka.
