As we approach the end of 2023, Chinese anime fans have much to look forward to. Some of the most highly anticipated Chinese donghua are set to return before the year is out. Two of the most popular titles, The Daily Life of the Immortal King and Spare Me, Great Lord!, will be released around the same time and are often compared to each other. Fans are eagerly anticipating these releases and can’t wait to see what the future holds for Chinese anime.
December 2023 Donghua Releases
We have compiled the list of Chinese anime releases for December 2023 from major streaming services in China that have donghua in their lineup.
Summer Punch (Ran Xia)
The first title on the list is “Summer Punch”, which was initially planned to be released as part of the summer 2022 donghua releases from Bilibili. However, it was delayed until further notice. Now, it is finally here, and this action-packed donghua showcases some real martial arts skills. This reminds me of my favorite donghua from 2022 – “Dragon’s Disciple”.
For those who love wuxia donghua, Summer Punch is a must-watch for you. It began airing on December 3, 2023, on Bilibili.
Shi Shi Chuanshuo
On December 3, 2023, Tencent Penguin Pictures and animation studio Mili Pictures released Shi Shi Chuanshuo, an action and science fiction story that will surely capture the attention of sci-fi fans. This new donghua feels like another interstellar adventure that will set our curious minds in the blaze of glory.
Song of the Broadsword Season 2 (Zhen Dao Ge)
On our list of top Chinese action donghua, Zhen Dao Ge ranks among the best. Its second season started airing on Tencent Video on December 5th. The story continues with a quest for vengeance, but it may simply be an excuse to start another bloody journey filled with glorious fight scenes and peak Chinese martial arts.
Apotheosis Season 2
One of Youku’s most popular donghua this year returns for its 2nd season and that is no other than Apotheosis, or Bai Lian Cheng Shen. It will continue where the story left us all a few months ago, and Apotheosis Season 2 was released last December 8, 2023. It is one of my favorite cultivation donghua that was released in recent years too which I can put on the same league with the likes of Perfect World, Stellar Transformations, and Jade Dynasty.
The Daily Life of the Immortal King Season 4
Next on our list is something that many of you have been waiting for – The Daily Life of the Immortal King Season 4. This time, Wang Ling and his friends are back with more action, more interesting characters, and of course, more hilarious moments. The opening and ending themes for the series are beautifully animated with gorgeous visuals and catchy songs with contrasting vibes.
No. 7 West Mars Street
On December 20, another hilarious and exciting Chinese anime from Bilibili comes in the presence of No. 7 West Mars Street which gives us a rather cartoonish but quality animation once again. A reminisce of some of our favorite shows like Scissor Seven in style.
Ringing Fate
Mark your calendar on December 22, 2023, as Ringing Fate is coming. This original action and sci-fi donghua from Bilbili and studio MOJO looks nothing but spectacular with its adorable character designs and story that might somehow remind us of many short-form donghua that we had in years such as Cat’s Tea, and Let Me Check the Walkthrough First.
Since The Red Moon Appeared
A new dystopian and post-apocalyptic donghua is premiering this Christmas Day and it is no other than one of my long-awaited series from Tencent, Since The Red Moon Appeared. So, watch out for this new thriller donghua on December 25.
Spare Me, Great Lord! Season 2 (Da Wang Rao Ming)
By the end of 2023, Lu Shu and his sister are expected to make a grand return as Da Wang Rao Ming Season 2 is set to release on December 30, 2023. Despite multiple delays, the show will finally be available for viewers to watch. Although the initial release date of September 30 had to be postponed, the show has been able to push through this month. Along with the announcement of the release date comes the second opening theme, which is also impressive and captivating.
