Battle Through The Heavens – The Three-Year Agreement Specials had been recently released and I think it’ll be awesome to look at the power-scaling in the donghua adaptation of Heavenly Silkworm Potato‘s xuanhuan novel – Doupo Cangqiong. The donghua had been around since 2017 that spanned over 4 seasons and 3 specials, furthermore, Battle Through The Heavens Season 5 had been already green-lit by Motion Magic during the Tencent Video Animation Annual Conference last August 8, 2021.
Now, looking back at where the series started, the power system in the Dou Qi Continent had been quite limited and caged in the small box called the Jia Ma Empire, the current location of the story in the anime adaptation. However, the Dou Qi Continent is bigger than you can imagine and with plenty of insurmountable characters, where do you think does our main character Xiao Yan stands? The answer is definitely far from the top, but that’s the reason why we are following his cultivation journey, he still has a long way to go but we sure are ready to follow him wherever he will go.
Nevertheless, let’s take a look at the current power system in the donghua. In the Jia Ma Empire, the Dou Huang had been greatly respected and feared by many, however, in the big picture, a Dou Huang is just someone who stands in the middle of a bigger food chain, in the ranking system of the story, Dou Huang sits in the 6th stage, way down the upper echelon of a Dou Zong, Dou Zun, and Dou Sheng; and absolutely far from the highest peak of Dou Di. Yet, let’s not look at this and just focus on elements that appear in the donghua so far. In line with our discussion of the power-scaling in Battle Through The Heavens, we had prepared a list here of 10 of the strongest characters in Battle Through The Heavens that appeared in the donghua so far.

Strongest Characters in Battle Through the Heavens Donghua
Alright, I will start this list with the strongest of them all and this spot is quite arguable because, to be honest, I have three characters that I had first considered for this place but after careful analysis, I think I ended up with a ranking that convinced myself to do this:
Yun Shan
Leading the list is the former Master of the Yunlan Sect. This once righteous man is the strongest character in Battle Through The Heavens donghua adaptation so far. Oh wait, some fans might complain about this, they might insert Yao Lao or Queen Medusa here, but let’s go to the specifics first. Yun Shan is the first real Dou Zong to appear in the donghua, he appeared in his full physical presence, a real person in flesh and blood. This also means that he is in his peak state of cultivation, and he is the hindrance that Xiao Yan must surpass, a driving force for him to strengthen himself, thus leading to the events that will soon happen in the upcoming 5th season of the donghua.
Queen Medusa
Following behind Yun Shan is the queen of the Snake-people Tribe, Queen Medusa. After a nerve-wracking breakthrough to Dou Zong stage, she lose her physical presence and combined her soul with the newly born 7-Colored Heavenly Swallowing Python. This means that Queen Medusa does not have 100% control of her soul, and she’s sharing one body with the ancient beast. Despite being a Dou Zong, it will take some time for her to fully recover her strength and utilize her newly acquired power as a Dou Ancestor. This made Yun Shan a bit higher than her, but she’s definitely can fight toe-to-toe with Yun Shan through a limited period of time.
Jia Xing Tian
The royal protector of the Jia Ma Empire, Jia Xing Tian is the strongest person and Dou Huang in the empire prior to the revelation of Yun Shan’s status as a Dou Zong and Queen Medusa’s appearance in the empire. Of all the Dou Huang in the donghua, he sits atop the group at the peak of the Dou Huang stage but hasn’t been able to break through to the Dou Zong stage yet. He used to be among Yun Shan’s contemporary and have mutual friendly ties with Hai Bodong and Fa Ma, but he’ll stop at nothing to secure the safety and stability of the Jia Ma Empire.
Ling Ying
Next on the list is the Dou Huang from the powerful Ancient family of the Gu Clan. Ling Ying is the bodyguard of Gu Xuner in the Jia Ma Empire and also appeared to protect Xiao Yan at times due to the order of his young master. Ling Ying is a Dou Huang who controls shadows, befitting for covert jobs, and he also fought Xiao Yan and Hai Bodong in the donghua showing that he can handle his 2 opponents at the same time while also holding back his real capability.
Yao Chen
Here we have Master Yao Lao, the teacher of Xiao Yan, under normal circumstances, Yao Chen should be the number, he should be the strongest character in Battle Through The Heavens so far, if and only if he is at his peak. However, he was killed prior to the start of the story, and thus, only his soul was left, only by consuming Xiao Yan’s dou qi did he awakened. While he definitely can outwit anyone due to his vast knowledge, he can’t easily put his knowledge into action without a physical body. He had a tremendous amount of soul power left in him though, thus I think making him on far with some Dou Huang in Jia Ma Empire if he’ll truly utilize all the remaining remnants of his power, skills, and knowledge put all together.
Yun Yun
Coming next is the current leader of the Yunlan Sect, the gorgeous Yun Yun. She’s a real talent, being able to reach the level of Dou Huang at such a young age. She’s a student of Yun Shan and she had access to all the elite skills and techniques of the Yunlan Sect.
Hai Bodong
The Ice Emperor is next on our list, he was an old acquaintance of Jia Xing Tian and both of them at one point had been on the same level of cultivation. Hai Bodong is also reckless and bold enough to challenge Yun Shan in the past when the latter was still the sect leader of the Yunlan Sect. He also challenged Queen Medusa in the past, thus, leading him to lose his cultivation prowess and got himself demoted to the Dou Ling stage until he met Xiao Yan who concocted a pill for him to return to Dou Huang stage. Although he is now back as a Dou Huang, he is still not able to fully recover his strength, albeit, he can still as fight recklessly and wonderfully, seeing with how he fights Jia Xing Tian upon his return and his fight against him Ling Ying. He can definitely hold his ground against an opponent who is stronger than him.
Fa Ma
The President of the Jia Ma Empire’s Alchemist Guild. He is one of the most influential people in the empire outside of the royal family and the noble houses. He is an adept alchemist, and knowledgeable about the world. With his appearance that looks like an old man, who would ever expect that he is a Dou Huang. Nonetheless, he sure holds so much power as a cultivator and influence as an alchemist, enough for the entirety of the Jia Ma Empire to respect him. During his younger years, Fa Ma had once a fateful encounter with Yao Chen, who had taught him and lived with him for 3 days during their travel across the continent.
Lu Man (Sky Serpent Mansion)
An elder from Sky Serpent Mansion, Lu Man didn’t get a long screen time in the donghua but we had seen him in a match against Mo Cheng where she joined hands with Xiao Yan and Hai Bodong to save Qing Ling. Nevertheless, such is not the case in the novel but I won’t dive into it since we were only tackling the donghua adaptation. Nevertheless, Lu Man is definitely one of the strongest characters to appear in Battle Through The Heavens anime. She is a Dou Huang and an elder from a well-respected sect in the Black-Corner Region. It seems that even Yao Chen knows her and acknowledged her ability.
Gu He
Here’s Pill King Gu He, he is not a Dou Huang but he holds power and influence on par with the most Dou Huang as the top alchemist of the empire. However, his strength does not only rely on his ability to create powerful pills, he also has enough cultivation strength to give a good fight to any powerful foes as shown during his infiltration on the Snake-people Tribe.
Alright, so these are the strongest characters from Battle Through The Heavens donghua adaptation that had appeared so far. Nevertheless, some names that we worth mentioning in this list are Nalan Jie, Teng Shan, Mu Chen, Mo Cheng, and Yun Leng, who had been one of Xiao Yan’s nemeses in The Three-Year Agreement specials which leads to further conflict with the Yunlan Sect.
