One of the returning anime sequels in the recently started Fall 2021 anime season is Yashahime: Princess Half-Demon – The Second Act which will continue its story after its 2-seasonal stint in the last quarter of 2020 until the Winter lineup of 2021 throughout its 24-episode run. The series had been the talk of the town upon its release as it brings a lot of nostalgic feelings because it is the direct continuation of the classic anime Inuyasha which was released almost 20 years ago. This new chapter in the story has put the children of the main and supporting characters from the main series to the limelight as they go and create their own adventure in the feudal era of Japan where demons and monsters lurk, and humanity is at their mercy, where demon hunters and monks and priestesses have special exorcism powers.

Brief Overview

Originally titled Hanyou no Yashahime, the sequel of the Inuyasha anime series was adapted from an original manga series by Rumiko Takahashi. It follows the story of the offspring of Inuyasha and Kagome, Moroha, and her encounter with Sesshoumaru’s twin daughters with Rin, Towa, and Setsuna. Together they’ll embark on a journey of fighting demons and monsters, finding the truth about their parents, and overcoming the obstacles that come to challenge their bonds and the thread of fate the binds them. In the end, Yashahime is an anime that thrives in all the nostalgic feels that it brought back to the long-time fans of the series who had been eagerly waiting for new updates from the Inuyasha franchise.

Synopsis

Several years after the events of Inuyasha: The Final Act, Sesshomaru and Rin’s four-year-old daughter Towa is separated from her twin sister Setsuna and gets stranded in the modern era, where she is adopted into her paternal half-aunt Kagome Higurashi’s family, raised by Kagome’s younger brother Sota and his warmhearted wife Moe. Towa becomes close to her younger adopted sister, six-year-old Mei, who is Towa’s “substitute” for Setsuna.

It was released from October 2020 until March 2021, animated and produced by studio Sunrise. Yashahime was directed by Teruo Sato, but Masakazu Hishida took over the direction of the anime in The Second Act. Katsuyuki Sumisawa written the script of the series and Kaoru Wada provided the music. If you wish to watch Yashahime Season 1, you can check its playlist on Ani-One’s YouTube Channel below.
