It has been an emotional ride, especially with how the 4th season ended, but it was officially confirmed that Battle Through the Heavens Season 5 is coming after it was announced during the Tencent Video Animation Conference 2021 that took place last August 8. Battle Through The Heavens Season 5, along with the 4th season special episodes, and the reboot of the 1st season had been all announced by Tencent and the series’ animation studio Motion Magic.

The entire experience of following Xiao Yan’s journey in Battle Through the Heavens Season 4 had been emotional, overwhelming, and delightful. The recently concluded 4th season which ended on August 29 had been the biggest from the series so far, with 24 episodes in total which picked up where the 3rd season ended and follows Xiao Yan’s return to Jia Ma Empire, his encounter with the Nalan Clan and the Jia Ma Empire’s Royal Family, his quest for and healing his damaged soul as well as waking up Yao Lao which leads him to compete in the Grand Alchemist Conference, a competition among young and promising alchemists from Jia Ma Empire and Chu Empire.

Overall, Battle Through The Heavens Season 4 had been a worthwhile experience where we had seen Xiao Yan’s development from being the arrogant teenage boy into a full-grown man who knows what he was doing, who acts when the situation calls and can think way ahead of his peers. He had grown a lot, and this progress along with his meeting new characters, both his allies and foes will help him become a better version of himself towards his ascension to godhood.

4th Season Special: The 3-Year Agreement

Dou Po Cangqiong: San Nian Zhi Yao | This is a big news for fans of the series, especially the 4th season specials which will highlight the 3-Year Agreement, the highly anticipated duel between Xiao Yan and Nalan Yanran. It will take place directly where the 4th season’s finale had left us and it will be a fantastic journey to follow, this has been one of the major events from the earlier chapters of the novel, and I am simply excited for it. The duel of Xiao Yan and Nalan Yanran will be the catalyst of Xiao Yan’s bigger adventure, the fall of the Yunlan Sect, the changes in the balance of power in the Jia Ma Empire, and the heartbreaking goodbyes between Xiao Yan and Yun Yun.

Xiao Yan’s escape from the Jia Ma Empire will be the beginning of an even bigger adventure, his reunion with Xunér, and his quest to become stronger than ever. Nevertheless, that’s something that we should all look forward to Battle Through The Heavens Season 5 Episode 1 which I am sure, you guys are all excited for.

In the latest announcement by Tencent on October 17, they revealed that the Battle Through the Heavens Specials – The Three-Year Agreement release date is scheduled on October 31, 2021 and will be streamed on its official page on Tencent Video as well as on various donghua platforms like Mundo Donghua, Myanime.live, Narul Donghua, KurinaOfficial, etc. It was accompanied by a new promotional video that features new clips of intense fight scenes that awaits the fans.

Dou Po Cangqiong: Nian Fan | With the official announcement of Battle Through the Heavens Season 5 during the Tencent 2021 Conference, fans can expect more exciting things to happen. I believed that it will follow the aftermath of Xiao Yan’s duel with Nalan Yanran and his fall out with the Yun Lan Sect which will lead to his escape to the Black-Corner Region, the most chaotic part of the entire continent where criminals and fugitives often escaped and settled to create their own barbarian rules.

There Xiao Yan will start his new journey at the Jia Nan Academy where he will reunite with Xuner and his other cousins. There’s a lot of things to look forward to from this new chapter of Xiao Yan’s journey before his return to the Jia Ma Empire. Seeing how the first 4 seasons of the donghua had been paced, I believed Battle Through the Heavens will have the same pacing in the future and I don’t mind if it’ll be slow as long as the essence of the story is there and it’ll deliver the same feels of what the novel readers had experienced. I, for example, had been fascinated and overwhelmed with how the 4th season concluded, it has been amazing and I felt like I’ve been reading the novel once again.

The key art visual for Battle Through The Heavens Season 5 also shows the tower from Jia Nan Academy where the students are cultivating their skills, the very platform that holds the 2nd Heavenly Flame that Xiao Yan will soon acquire.

1st Season Reboot: From Foch Film to Motion Magic

Dou Po Cangqiong: Yuanqi (Battle Through the Heavens: Origin) | The first season of Battle Through the Heavens that aired at the same time as The King’s Avatar, Full-Time Magister, and Soul Land will be getting a reboot. It was previously animated by Shanghai Foch Film Investment, but since Motion Magic had taken over the series from its 1st season special episodes until the 4th season, I think it’s appropriate for the Motion Magic to reboot the 1st season for the sake of uniformity in terms of character designs and animation, and the overall feels of the series.
