Left Hand Layup!: Zuo Shou Shang Lan Characters’ Profile

China’s ambitious sports anime is slated for release in 2023 and that is Zuoshou Shanglan or Left Hand Layup! For some reason, it reminds me a lot of Slam Dunk and I do hope that this is just the beginning of having more sports anime or donghua from China. Initially scheduled for release in 2022, the donghua had been delayed and in the latest promotional video from its production committee, Left-Hand Layup! had been confirmed to be released this February 2, 2023.

Zuo Shou Shang Lan (Left Hand Layup!) is an upcoming Chinese sports anime sponsored by the Chinese Basketball Association and an ambitious project which established LHL Culture Animation Studio whose sole purpose is to produce and animate this sports donghua.

In this post, I would like to share the profile of several Zuoshou Shanglan characters. As a basketball anime, it is important that we should discuss height, and thank god, the character’s bio that LHL Culture released includes the characters’ height, weight, birthday, etc. Wow, that looks interesting and for teenage fans, these are some details that truly matter. I am wondering if this could be the next The King’s Avatar or Music Up!

Zuo Shou Shang Lan Characters Bio

Without further ado, let’s meet the characters from Zuo Shou Shang Lan that we should look forward to next year:

Xu Xing Ze / 许星泽

Xu Xing Ze is the main character of Zuo Shou Shang Lan. He is both the sunshine and the comedic relief in the court. Now, that sounds like Sakuragi himself. He often gets into a fight with Duan Bai Ting, another member of the team.

Yun Mo /云末

Next on our list is Yun Mo, a tsundere type. He is quite cold outside but he is someone with a burning passion deep inside. He usually doesn’t smile but he is filled with enthusiasm when he is on the basketball court.

Who said fat people can’t play basketball? We have here a character with flexible footwork and amazing dribbling skills. His organizational skills are also top-notch with strong mental fortitude. He shared a good relationship with Gao Zhan and he has an optimistic personality that I think is purely valuable to the team.

Gu Liao Liao / 顾了了

What we have here next is the first girl on this list, it’s Gu Liao Liao and she’s serving as the Sports Director of the Beijing North Affiliated High School. She’s beautiful with an active and capable personality. She cares a lot about the development of the basketball team and she shares a somewhat good relationship with Guan Xin.

Gao Zhan /高展

With his height, no one would think that he is just a beginner in basketball. Now, that’s what Sakuragi actually looks like when Slam Dunk first started. Gao Zhan’s height gives him a certain advantage in the penalty area albeit his weakness is his weight as he is too thin to play aggressively in the court. Basically, he is the newbie in the team with so much potential but also needs to work on his foundation first.

The typical guy that could easily attract the attention of the girls when he is in the court, Danny has foreign blood in him. His personality can be a bit cynical but he has good basketball skills and can be quite boastful at the same time.

Does Zuo Shou Shang Lan remind you already of Slam Dunk or Kuroko’s Basketball? However, this donghua will also have its own unique flavor as it’ll revolve around the youthful story of Chinese teenagers which I believed should have a different culture from what we had seen so far from the other series. Nevertheless, the core of the story is basketball, and everything revolves around the ball and the basketball court.
