Xiao Zhan is returning for another live-action of a popular Chinese anime series and that donghua is Douluo Dalu or Soul Land which will have the title of the Douluo Continent.
After portraying Wei Wuxian from The Untamed (the live-action series of Mo Dao Zu Shi), Xiao Zhan will portray Tang San next, the main protagonist in the story of upcoming Chinese drama Douluo Continent which is scheduled for broadcast this February 2021.

Upon watching the trailer for Douluo Continent, I am quite convinced that the cast members selected for the project are perfect for the roles given to them, especially Xiao Zhan as Tang San.
Douluo Continent Synopsis
Tang San lost his mother since young, and he and his father depend on each other dearly. Tang San possesses extraordinary wits and talent since young and aspires to be a great soul master. When he was six, he was sent to Ruoding Academy for cultivation.
There, he came under the tutelage of Yu Xiaogang and also gets to know an orphan girl named Gu Xiaowu, who became sworn siblings with him. Later, to further improve his cultivation, Yu Xiaogang brings Tang San to Shrek Academy.
There, Tang San, Xiao Wu, and five other youths form a group known as the “Shrek Seven Devils”. The seven youths later enter the Tian Dou Royal Academy, where they became embroiled in the princes’ battle for power. In the meantime, Tang San also discovers the person who killed his mother – none other than Wu Hun Pavilion’s Bi Bidong; who is Xue Qinghe in disguise.
To stop Wu Hun Pavilion from destroying the Tiandou Kingdom, Tang San allies with the various sects of the kingdom and wages war against Wu Hun Pavilion.
Douluo Continent Live-Action Cast
In this post, I would like to introduce the cast members for Douluo Continent. Though I have previously made an introductory post about them in my first post about Soul Land’s live-action adaptation, I was only able to include the first set of the cast for the series. Therefore, the full list of the cast and their respective roles in the series will be listed in the following context as follows:

A former young prodigy of the renowned Tang Sect. One of the Shrek Seven Devils.
Xiao Zhan previously played the mischievous character of Wei Wuxian – the main protagonist of The Untamed based from the popular danmei novel Mo Dao Zu Shi which also received a Chinese anime adaptation titled Grandmaster of Demonic Cultivation – which I have listed as the best donghua of 2018, and one of my top 10 Chinese anime of all time.
Based on the show’s synopsis, it seems like they will not follow the entirety of the novel and will have some revisions, however, whatever the production team might come up with Tang San’s character, I do hope they could justify the overwhelming persona that Tang San have from the novel, the manhua, and the donghua.
The 28-year-old actor had appeared in other TV series including Super Star Academy (2016) as Fang Tianze, Shuttle Love Millennium (2016) as Liang, Oh! My Emperor (2018) as Beitang Moran, Battle Through the Heavens (2018) as Lin Xiuya, Joy of Life (2019) as Yang Bingyun, and the upcoming 2020 Chinese TV series The Wolf as Ji Chong, and The Oath of Love as Gu Wei.

We have the 25-year-old actress Wu Xuan Yi playing the role of our main heroine in the story of the Douluo Continent which is Xiao Wu. Wu Xuan Yi is a member of the girl group Cosmic Girls, and Rocket Girls 101. Looking at the previously revealed key visuals for Douluo Continent, I am pretty much satisfied with her appearance as I felt like she lived up to my expectations of Xiao Wu’s innocent and mischievous personality.
Gao Tai Yu as Dai Mubai

Portraying the Team Captain of Shrek Seven Devils (if the writer won’t alter this fact) is Gao Tai Yu as Dai Mubai. If the 28-year-old actor may look familiar to you, that is because he has plenty of roles in his portfolio which you might have seen before. Among his TV series projects include Seventeen Blue (2015), Little Valentine (2017), Emperors and Me (2019), Youth Fight (2019), Gank Your Heart (2019), Return the World to You (2019), Only Beautiful (2019), and the upcoming Demi-Gods and Semi-Devils (2020) version.
He also appeared in several movies such as Young Adult (2014), Haunted Love (2014), For Love to Let Go (2016), A Round Trip to Love (2016), and Medical Examiner Dr. Qin (2018).

One of the Shrek Seven Devils. Possesses the fastest speed and strongest attacking ability.
Dai Mubai’s love interest Zhu Zhuqing will be portrayed by the 23 year old Chinese actress Liu Mei Tong who previously appeared in various Chinese TV series in recent years including Ruyi’s Royal Love in the Palace (2018), Battle Through the Heavens (2018), Joy of Life (2019), and the upcoming Demi-Gods and Semi-Devils (2020).
This is a reunion project for Liu Mei Tong and Xiao Zhan who previously worked with her on Battle Through the Heavens (2018) live-action adaptation, and Joy of Life.

Our food system support character from the novel Oscar will be portrayed by Liu Run Nan in the upcoming live-action. The 25-year-old singer-actor also appeared in various TV shows such as Peacekeeping Infantry Battalion (2017), Arsenal Military Academy (2019), Joy of Life (2019), and the other upcoming 2020 series such as God of Lost Fantasy, Shao Ye Yu Wo De Luo Man Shi, and the unscheduled project City of Desire.

Meanwhile next in our list is Ao Zi Yi who will portray Ma Hongjun. I am wondering why do we have a skinny actor playing the role of a short chubby character. Nonetheless, I think it should be fine since the series seems like going to be a loose adaptation of the novel after all.
Ao Zi Yi unlike the rest of the cast is very young at the age of 17, and he previously worked on Chinese series 2016 Obsessed With Heart, and will also appear in the future shows Ice Hockey Girl (2020), and Yu Zhao Ling (2021).

One of the Shrek Seven Devils. Daughter of Yu Fengzhi, clan master of the Sibao Liuli Sect.
Actress Ding Xiao Ying will be playing the role of our fair lady in the story of the Douluo Continent and that is Ding Rongrong (Ning Rongrong from the novel). The 23-year-old actress also appeared in the 2016 Chinese series Ice Fantasy, the 2018’s The Demon Master, and the 2019’s The King of Land Battle. Aside from Douluo Continent, she will also take part in the upcoming projects You Are So Sweet (2020), and The Golden Hairpin (2021).

Playing the role of Grandmaster is Calvin Chen. The name may sound familiar since he appeared in various TV series before and he was a member of the popular Taiwanese boyband Fahrenheit – which I am a fan of, especially of Wu Chun. Calvin’s past shows include KO One (2005), Romantic Princess (2007) – this one is my favorite, Momo Love (2009), Love Buffet (2010), Sunshine Angel (2011), Lucky Touch (2013), and Last Friend (2018).

One of the three “Golden Triangle” team members (in charge of killing). Director of Lan Ba academy. Teacher of the Shrek Seven Devils.
The Grandmaster’s love interest and one of the fiercest women in the story of Douluo Dalu Erlong will be portrayed by 33-year-old model-actress Zhang Wen. Among the shows where she previously appeared were The Prince of Tennis, Diamond Lover, Love is So Beautiful, Midnight Diner, Oh My General, Flowers Wither, and Mr. Fighting.

The 3rdmember of the Golden Triangle and the director of Shrek Academy from the novel is Flender and will be portrayed Qiu Xin Zhi. The 51-year-old actor also appeared in the several Chinese TV series before including Bloody Pearl, Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon, Liao Zhai Hua Gu Zi, Bai She Hou Zhuan, New My Fair Princess, The Romance of the Condor Heroes (2014), Midnight Girl, Invisible Wings, Please Give Me a Pair of Wings, and Royal Nirvana.

Portraying the character of Er Ming Huang is the 29-year-old actor Zhang Heng Rui who previously appeared in Bu Liang Ren (2016), Ice Fantasy (2016), Magic Star (2017), Good Bye My Princess (2019), and Joy of Life (2019).

The 25-year-old Chinese actress Huang Can Can will be playing the role of Hu Liena. She appeared in other TV series like My Weird Boyfriend (2017), Fighting For Love (2018), Behind The Scenes (2019), The Plough Department of Song Dynasty (2019), Princess Silver (2019), and My Mowgli Boy (2019).

Zhong Zhen Tao or also known as Kenny Bee will portray Tang Hao, Tang San’s father and one of the strongest characters in the story of Douluo Dalu. Zhong Zhen Tao previously appeared in shows like Healing Hearts (2001), Godfather in Pink (2003), Return of the Condor Heroes (2006), and Shei Lian Tian Xia Ci Mu Xin 2008).

Next is Shen Xiao Hai who will portray Ning Fengzhi, Rongrong’s father from the novel. Shen Xiao Hai have appeared in different TV series before including Yuan Ye (1994), Smart Kid (2001), A Chinese Ghost Story (2003), Girls and the City (2006), Love of the Millennium (2011) The Untamed (2019), and the upcoming Demi-Gods and Semi-Devils (2020) edition.

The hunk actor we have here next is Gu You Ming and if you’re an avid reader of my blog, he appeared in the 2019 live-action drama of The King’s Avatar as Ye Xiu’s rival Han Wenqing. The 36-year-old model-actor will play the role of Xiao Dashao in the Douluo Continent. He also appeared in other TV series such as The Twilight of the Pupil (2016), Butler (2017), Fighter of the Destiny (2017), Legend of Fuyao (2018), Meet In Youth Love in Foods (2018), and Naked Love (2018).

Playing the role of Huo Wu is the 20-year-old actor Wang Lu who previously appeared in various series such as Hero Dog (2015), Hot Girl (2016), and The Flame’s Daughter (2018).

From shows like The Ten Deadly Sins, Love O2O, Nervous, and Hey Pro! My Mountain Girl, Zhang Hao Yu will be joining the cast for Douluo Continent.
And that’s all the previously revealed cast of Douluo Continent TVseries. While we don’t have any specific date yet for its release, Douluo Continent as a live-action of Soul Land is going to be one of the most anticipated shows of the year since our beloved Chinese actor Xiao Zhan will play the role of Tang San from one of the most popular Chinese anime in the recent years.
