The Seven Deadly Sins: Wrath of the Gods Anime

We are now entering the middle of summer 2019 season and it only means that we are getting closer to this season’s denouement which really gives us a promising lineup and to be honest, I am seriously enjoying this season. However, a part of me is already anticipating so much for the next season which is the fall 2019 lineup due to some of my personal favorite anime comes along with it.

Among the reason that keeps me excited for the fall anime lineup is The Seven Deadly Sins: Wrath of the Gods. It is the 3^rd season assigned for the popular shounen anime Nanatsu no Taizai or popularly known as Seven Deadly Sins in the English-speaking world of anime community.

The Seven Deadly Sins Season 2 (Revival of the Ten Commandments) finished at 6^thplace in our Top 20 Anime of 2018 Year-end list and with how it ended, there’s no doubt that fans and the anime community as a whole were excited to see how the Holy War will continue. Personally, I have knowledge of what’s about to come if the anime will purely be based on the novel but I won’t spoil some beans in this post and instead, I’ll keep on sharing updates about the upcoming Seven Deadly Sins Season 3 which is scheduled to air on October 9 this year.

For readers who are not familiar with Seven Deadly Sins, the following is the synopsis of the anime:

The Seven Deadly Sins were once an active group of knights in the region of Britannia (ブリタニア Buritania), who disbanded after they supposedly plotted to overthrow the Liones Kingdom (リオネス王国 Rionesu Ōkoku). Their supposed defeat came at the hands of the Holy Knights, but rumors continued to persist that they were still alive. Ten years later, the Holy Knights staged a coup d’état and captured the king, becoming the new, tyrannical rulers of the kingdom. The third princess, Elizabeth Liones, then starts out on a journey to find the Seven Deadly Sins and enlist their help in taking back the kingdom from the Holy Knights. (Via: Wikipedia)

During the run of its first (2) seasons, Seven Deadly Sins had gained quite a cult and it is even ranked along with some of the most popular shounen anime of the series such as Hunter x Hunter, Black Clover, and My Hero Academia as to be the next candidate for the BIG THREE (3) of the shounen genre. However, the anime is coming to its epic conclusion and the upcoming Seven Deadly Sins Season 3 could be the final installment in the franchise.

On August 23, 2019 – A new promo video for The Seven Deadly Sins: Wrath of the Gods had been unveiled featuring our favorite sins and together with other characters in the series including Drole and Gloxinia who will both plays vital roles in this part of the story. You may check the PV below.

The Seven Deadly Sins Season 3 – Wrath of the Gods PV 2

On September 26, 2019 – a new promotional video for The Seven Deadly Sins Season 3 had been unveiled featuring the members of the sins and a glimpse at the holy war that took place 3,000 years ago prior to the start of the story where Meliodas, Elizabeth along with the combined powers of Giants, Fairies, Goddess Clan, and humans fought in a bloodbath against the Demon Clan. The Seven Deadly Sins season 3 release date is slated on October 9, we definitely have to add it in our watchlist for fall 2019 anime lineup if you’re a big fan of shounen genre.

The Seven Deadly Sins: Wrath of the Gods or known in Japanese as Nanatsu no Taizai: Kamigami no Gekirin will have the cast from the previous seasons return to reprise their roles such as the following:

Studio Deen will be animated the series with Nakaba Suzuki credited for original work. It was previously revealed that its voice actress Sora Amamiya will sing the ending theme song titled Regeneration. Meanwhile, the opening theme is titled ROB THE FRONTIER by UVERworld.

From this point, I will discuss some interesting stuff or happenings to look forward in the show and that is why we have to be excited for Seven Deadly Sins Season 3 release in October. Though, I might share some spoilers from the manga, so please proceed if you want to know about it. If not, you may stop reading up to this point.

I believed it’s also a good thing to do before the premiere of The Seven Deadly Sins Season 3 is to watch the previous season – The Seven Deadly Sins: Revival of the Ten Commandments which aired last year. GOWTHER REAL INTENTION – who is Gowther and what’s his real motive?

Gowther is a member of the Seven Deadly Sins as well as The 10 Commandments. He is both a doll and a sorcerer. The real Gowther is a powerful wizard and is the teacher of Merlin’s father. The Demon King bestowed him a commandment before. How strong is he? He is powerful enough as a wizard being able to deceive the Demon King and everyone else in the previous Holy War and eventually ended it. His power lasted for over 3000 years until the current Gowther (a doll created by the original Gowther) unveiled the truth.

THE FIRST GIANT AND FAIRY KING

The Seven Deadly Sins: Wrath of the Gods Drole and Gloxinia vs Diane and King

Drole and Gloxinia’s role in the story is more than what we saw so far in the previous season. They are among the most important characters from the previous Holy War and will play a vital role in increasing the power of Diane and King which will help them fight the upper echelon of the Demon clan.

THE EXECUTIONER – ZELDRIS

If there is anyone who I think is extremely overwhelming among the Ten Commandments, then I have to spill the beans here that it is Zeldris. His power is exactly the same as the Demon King though it is on a smaller scale. Nonetheless, he really is an insurmountable entity in The Seven Deadly Sins universe being able to render Escanor, Merlin, and the Archangels powerless.

THE SECRET OF ESTAROSSA

The Seven Deadly Sins - Mael is Estarossa

Gowther’s cursed Mael to become Estarossa

This is something that is quite hard to explain but Estarossa isn’t what he usually looks like. [BIG SPOILER] Estarossa is no demon, he is in fact from the Goddess clan. Estarossa is Mael, the strongest for the 4 archangels. So, why did he become a demon? That question will lead us back to Gowther, the exact person that steals Mael’s identity and give birth to Estarossa. Gowther altered the memory of almost everyone else from the previous Holy War and embedded Mael as Estarossa – the 2^nd son of the Demon King in the memory of everyone. Furthermore, Escanor’s power is borrowed from Mael’s blessing – thus, giving explanation to the unusual strength of the proud sun.

THE CURSE OF MELIODAS AND ELIZABETH

This one is truly a painful curse I’ll say. Meliodas had been cursed to be immortal, to witness and suffer the death of Elizabeth who had been cursed to die and reborn simultaneously. For thousands of years, Meliodas had witnessed the death of Elizabeth in a different era and generation and must bear that pain inside of him as he slowly loses an ounce of goodness in his heart as time goes by.

THE SEVEN DEADLY SINS POWER LEVEL-UP

Ban Returns from Purgatory

So far, we have Escanor as the strongest characters in the anime though as the story progress, our favorite members of the Seven Deadly Sins will gain special powers one way or another. Among its members with the most notable growth in power were King and Diane, Ban also got a great upgrade after his time in the purgatory though he eventually loses his immortality in order to save Ellaine. Merlin also shows a fearsome side of her as she faces challenges and enemies with calm composure and her unimaginable knowledge.

Well, these were only some of the stuff that I dare to share with you guys. There are tons of other things about the upcoming Seven Deadly Sins: Wrath of the Gods which will surely take us by surprise. But since the anime still a shounen genre, some of the aspects of its story could be easily predicted. Nonetheless, there’s no doubt that we will be up to another funny, epic adventure from our favorite estrange knights.
