Friendship Goals: Top 10 Best of Friends that Glanced the Anime Universe

Top 10 Best of Friends from Anime

Friendship – a very cliché and fragile yet important aspect of our life and of our being. They said human is a social animal, thus, we have to interact with our surroundings both with the living and non-living things. And among the living organisms, we see humans – they could be our family, allies, enemies, friends, or just people that simply know or maybe a plain stranger. Among human relationships, there is one which seems to be overwhelmingly strong and it wasn’t attached by any blood relations and could make the world bigger for us. They are the people that we call friend/s.

Let me ask you guys, how many friends do you have? Possibly, you have tons of friends because in general people whom you find a common interest and you both thrive in the company of each other, there will always be that one and only person to whom you trust your world, your heart, your everything and that is what we call best friends. And even in the anime universe, best friends do exist and they even play their part even better than what real-life people do.

In honor of those extraordinary friendships that exist in the anime, we had listed 10 of the most special anime best friends from different series. Hoping that these friendships will make us humans jealous of them even a little and inspire us to become better friends towards each other and value the bonds that we shared with those friends that truly matter to us at the moment. So let’s start our list with one of my favorite among them as follows:

Sakura Kinomoto & Tomoyo Daidouji

Friendship: Cardcaptor Sakura - Sakura Kinomoto & Tomoyo Daidouji
Cardcaptor Sakura - Sakura Kinomoto & Tomoyo Daidouji

The friendship of Sakura & Tomoyo is no doubt belongs to the category where one idolized the other and put the focus of her attention to another one. However, Sakura and Tomoyo thrive in the existence of each other and it’s really amazing how their friendship is so enduring and their devotion towards each other is simply unshakable. Their friendship simply shows that we all need someone to lean especially during the school days and share the excitement of life with them.

Houtarou Oreki & Satoshi Fukube

Friendship: Hyouka - Houtarou Oreki & Satoshi Fukube
Hyouka - Houtarou Oreki & Satoshi Fukube

This duo had always been a favorite of mine. They are both brilliant in their respective strength on which sometimes I felt like their way of thinking is almost the same especially when they both conclude the same answer but the mental process behind it is quite different. And that’s where the important aspect of their friendship enters. Having friends does not simply mean having someone to talk with, someone to walk home with, someone who listens to our rants, but it is having someone who knows your weaknesses and helps you to strengthen it. Someone who will say “I’ve got your back” and this is the aspect of Houtarou and Satoshi’s friendship that I admire the most.

Mahiro Fuwa & Yoshino Takigawa

Friendship: Blast of Tempest - Mahiro Fuwa & Yoshino Takigawa
Blast of Tempest - Mahiro Fuwa & Yoshino Takigawa

Beyond friendship and the rivalry, Mahiro and Yoshino really have that special sparks between them with illuminates the entire story of Blast of Tempest in every episode where they’re both in. The complicated relationship between these two friends is quite bizarre but maybe it’s because the common piece that connects them had been gone and was the most precious person to each of them. In the end, their friendship had overcome any obstacles that make things complicated for them and they’re able to reconcile. I felt like Mahiro and Yoshino reminds me of great the rivalry from other famous anime characters especially Light and L, Lelouch and Suzaku, Naruto and Sasuke, and even Goku and Vegeta.

Tom Sawyer & Huckleberry Finn

Friendship: The Adventures of Tom Sawyer - Tom Sawyer & Huckleberry Finn
The Adventures of Tom Sawyer - Tom Sawyer & Huckleberry Finn

Tom and Huck have a very special kind of friendship from an amazing anime that influenced my childhood days in a tremendous way. If I may be a little bit brutal here, The Adventure of Tom Sawyer is among those anime that taught us to live our life to the fullest and enjoy every minute of it because it is the essence of being a child. Impulsive, carefree, cheerful, energetic, free-spirited and more, these were only some of the attributes that Tom and Huck had imbued in our souls when we were a kid and their friendship is the one that each of us could easily relate with. After all, in each and every one of us lives a Tom Sawyer or Huckleberry Finn who are excited to explore life and make the best out of it.

Harunobu Nikaidō & Rei Kiriyama

Friendship: March Comes in Like a Lion - Harunobu Nikaidō & Rei Kiriyama
March Comes in Like a Lion - Harunobu Nikaidō & Rei Kiriyama

A peculiar names in our list, this is the one-sided best friend scenario that we had here one which only Nikaido felt and stated and he is Rei’s best friend and rival. However, it may sound stupid or obnoxious; I seriously have great respect for Nikaido for being the tsundere friend who is willing to help Rei at any opportunity he gets even though there are times that it feels like he is dragging the latter to a whirlpool of coincidence.

Seishu Handa & Naru Kotoishi

Friendship: Barakamon - Seishu Handa & Naru Kotoishi
Barakamon - Seishu Handa & Naru Kotoishi

Well, what we have here is a rather peculiar but truly inspirational team-up of two of my favorite anime characters ever. Seishu Handa who I enjoy calling sensei and the young and ever-lively island girl Naru, these two really made a pretty good pair of friends despite the large age gap. It’s even more amazing how an adult could learn from young people’s carefree nature in order to see things from a different perspective. In this light, Seishu and Naru really did what best friends should suppose to do.

Lelouch vi Britannia & Suzaku Kururugi

Friendship: Code Geass - Lelouch vi Britannia & Suzaku Kururugi
Code Geass - Lelouch vi Britannia & Suzaku Kururugi

A friendship that even war couldn’t break, that even a tragedy couldn’t faze. Lelouch and Suzaku’s friendship is a bizarre one that thrives in the difference in their principles in life but finds a way to reconcile to protect their common ground. For our readers who had watched Code Geass already, we had seen Lelouch and Suzaku fought each other and defend each other in so many ways and circumstances and it’s really amazing how they still ended up as allies in the conclusion of the story. If there is anything that we could conclude in all of this, it is the fact that their friendship is an enduring one that no matter what kind of tragic event falls upon them, they’ll try to find a way to reconcile as long as there’s a term that they could agree with.

Roy Mustang & Maes Hughes

Friendship: Full Metal Alchemist - Roy Mustang & Maes Hughes
Full Metal Alchemist - Roy Mustang & Maes Hughes

These two is among the most delicate anime characters from one of my favorite anime series ever which is the Full Metal Alchemist (Brotherhood). Roy and Maes also showed us a friendship worth to be jealous of despite the fact that (spoiler ahead for readers who didn’t watch FMA yet) Maes eventually died in the story. They showed us what real comradeship is; in fact, they remind me of Chairman Netero from Hunter x Hunter and his best friend on which one has to work in the light and other in the dark). Though it doesn’t necessarily apply to Roy and Maes, these two did play different roles in the military.

Gon Freecss & Killua Zoldyck

Friendship: Hunter x Hunter - Gon Freecss & Killua Zoldyck
Hunter x Hunter - Gon Freecss & Killua Zoldyck

Young, wild, and free I think this was the easiest description that I could give to Gon Freeccs and Killua Zoldyck friendship. They both showed us what real friendship is especially when facing all dangers together. Their friendship is something to keep and it’s really amazing how they could keep up with each other despite the fact that they have very different nature and lives in a completely different world. I think that’s what happened when you befriend people who are your polar opposite on which your body and mentality adjusted to them nonchalantly and you’ll simply find out later on that both of you synchronized in so many ways.

Kaneki Ken & Hideyoshi Nagachika

Friendship: Tokyo Ghouls - Kaneki Ken & Hideyoshi Nagachika
Tokyo Ghouls - Kaneki Ken & Hideyoshi Nagachika

In the top of our list for anime best friends is no other than Kaneki and Hide from Tokyo Ghoul. A friendship that goes beyond differences and even defies death. On a personal level, I seriously thought that Kaneki and Hide’s friendship is among the most intricate relationship in Tokyo Ghoul universe. Sometimes, I couldn’t just stop myself from shipping them while in any sense they’re simply the embodiment of two real friends who treasure one another especially Hide and all his sacrifices for Kaneki. I am also glad and fascinated that Kaneki didn’t let his guilt and the distance between them to let their friendship end and eventually, they’re reunited to work hand in hand which simply shows what best of friends supposed to be doing.

That ends our list for the best pair of friends from different anime series. In case you think that we had forgotten something or someone, please let us know by leaving a comment below.
