Hey guys, I could smell the summer breeze already as of now though we still have few more weeks before the spring season officially conclude. However, it sure it timely and relevant to take a look at the upcoming summer 2019 anime lineup and see which anime shows we should add to our watchlist to keep the hype alive.
We did have plenty of amazing anime shows airing this summer and that includes some giant titles such as 2015 hit DanMachi, and several anime adaptations of various popular manga series. Furthermore, some of the most beloved and definitely amazing anime from spring anime lineup was also continued as leftover anime and that includes Demon Slayer, Fruits Basket (2019) which were among our potential candidates for Anime of Season for Spring 2019.
So let’s start our list of must-watch anime from summer 2019 season with the most hyped giant shows as follows:
DanMachi II (Is It Wrong to Try to Pick Up Girls in a Dungeon? II)
Premiere: July 12, 2019
Studio: J.C. Staff
Dungeon ni Deai wo Motomeru no wa Machigatteiru no Darou ka II. Alright, we have Bell Cranel and the effing hot goddess Hestia back for the 2nd season of Is It Wrong to Try to Pick Up Girls in a Dungeon? or also known as DanMachi for short. The first season of the anime officially premiered in 2015 and is considered as one of the best isekai anime of this generation following the path of Sword Art Online. Though the character development and writings might have some loopholes, it didn’t stop DanMachi from becoming a popular anime among viewers and with that being said, DanMachi Season 2 is definitely among the most hyped anime to watch out for next season.
Fire Force
Premiere: July 6, 2019
Studio: David Production
Enen no Shouboutai. Personally, Fire Force is one of the anime shows airing this summer that sits atop my watch list. In fact, I believe that this could be the next big thing this year as this popular shounen manga have a very promising premise. If you love seeing firefighters battling supernatural-inspired occurrence then Fire Force is definitely a must to be added in your list.

Dr. Stone
Premiere: July 6, 2019
Studio: TMS Entertainment
Dr. Stone – this Science fiction adventure anime is definitely going to rock our summer season as it gives us an exciting shounen experience. This is actually the number one anime from summer 2019 lineup that I am most excited to see. The premise might be one of a cliché setting just like those from Attack on Titan, or any post-apocalyptic anime where the humans’ population diminish big time. However, this anime that tells us the quest for salvation and revival of human civilization with the help of no other than our precious friend – the Science is going to be an amazing ride.
Arifureta: From Commonplace to World’s Strongest
Premiere: July 8, 2019
Studio: Asread, White Fox
Arifureta Shokugyou de Sekai Saikyou. Here we have another one of those fantasy harem clichés but wait… there’s more to Arifureta than what meets the eye. It’s a story about survival and all the elements that could be found in other anime shows in the same genre, however, with great narration, Arifureta definitely has the edge to bring the light novel inspired anime to a new height this season. In the end, this could be another generic isekai but what makes a great show is standing out amidst a very popular genre, isn’t it right and I believe that Arifureta has got what it takes to stand out.
Vinland Saga
Premiere: July 8, 2019
Studio: Wit Studio
A trip down to a Nordic world is waiting for us with Vinland Saga as we finally get some intense action-packed anime next season as this show will bring the ferocious Vikings back to life. A story so fierce, a drama so heartfelt, fight scenes so intense, and showing traits and emotions so unique to human beings. Furthermore, we are up for another bloody-filled and action-packed anime as Vinland Saga is animated by Wit Studio – the same powerhouse that gave us Attack on Titan, The Ancient Magus’ Bride, and Kabaneri of the Iron Fortress. The anime didn’t air yet but I could definitely feel how overwhelming this one could be.
Skilled Teaser Takagi-san Season 2
Premiere: July 7, 2019
Studio: Shin-Ei Animation
Karakai Jouzu no Takagi-san 2. One of our Top 20 Anime of 2018 is coming back this year and I am truly happy and grateful to see Takagi-san once again and her lovely shenanigans. I believe that Skilled Teaser Takagi-san 2nd season shall be a breath of fresh air next season as one of few genuine and wholesome romantic comedy anime amidst the rampant action anime titles on summer.
A Certain Scientific Accelerator
Premiere: July 12, 2019
Studio: J.C. Staff
Toaru Kagaku no Accelerator. Alright, so we have A Certain Scientific Accelerator airing on summer and I am really excited for this since he is my favorite character from its original anime franchise which is A Certain Magical Index. If I may be bolder here though, A Certain Magical Index has too many loopholes that regardless of how promising it is, a certain part of myself is not convinced of its success. However, this one is a separate matter as Accelerator had been one of the most liked characters from the franchise and having him as the main character definitely puts this interesting antihero to a new light.
How Many Kilograms are the Dumbbells You Lift?
Premiere: July 3, 2019
Studio: Doga Kobo
Dumbbell Nan Kilo Moteru? This anime might have a contradicting aspect as Dumbbell Nan Kilo Moteru? Isn’t really heavy as what it may sound. It is based on a fun slice of life manga with the same title and I think I could compare it with this season’s Cinderella Nine in August. However, this anime doesn’t have that much of a depth of its story aside from the fun cliché of cute girls doing cute stuff. Nonetheless, it is definitely a good anime to follow next season for a change of pace from action anime shows.
GIVEN
Premiere: July 12, 2019
Studio: Lerche
GIVEN – I’ll say this is a very dear anime to me. This goes beyond the drama, the music, and the romance in it. Given is one of those few shounen-ai anime that caught my attention and it has a very promising plot to follow. I have seen that many people thought or labeled this as YAOI and I think it is quite confusing because Given goes beyond the definition of boys love. It’s a fascinating and sweet story of romance and realistic shounen-ai drama. If there’s any word that I could describe this anime, it could BOND – as it gives us a glimpse at how powerful music is, as a tool to connect people’s feelings, emotions, and dreams.
Isekai Cheat Magician
Premiere: July 10, 2019
Studio: Encourage Films
We have another adventure-fantasy isekai story here and literally, the title itself gives us the hints that this anime is all about magic and what lies beyond that. Looking at its premise and plot, Isekai Cheat Magician is just another isekai anime that follows the same path as other giants on its respective genre such as Overlord, That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime, The Rising Shield Hero, Magi’s Grandson, etc. However, its trailer and teaser visuals were interesting enough to keep my attention on it. Who knows, this may actually have something fresh to offer and I couldn’t be happier to see that this summer.
Do You Like Your Mom? Her Normal Attack is Two Attacks at Full Power, Okaasan Online
Premiere: July 13, 2019
Studio: J.C. Staff
Tsuujou Kougeki ga Zentai Kougeki de Ni-kai Kougeki no Okaasan wa Suki Desu ka? Is another isekai story in our lineup on summer. This adventure-comedy anime is going to make us laugh so hard with how ridiculous and cliché it is. The story is actually quite promising, imaging having your mother as a party member when you transported to an RPG world, isn’t that creepy and awkward at the same time? Nonetheless, for people who love isekai, this one could be a great addition to your list of shows next summer. It’s actually funny and kind of unique to the cliché pairs that we got from some of the isekai that were previously shown, so I believe this could be a great ride to have.
If It’s for My Daughter, I’d Even Defeat a Demon Lord
Premiere: July 4, 2019
Studio: MAHO Film
Uchi no Ko no Tame naraba, Ore wa Moshikashitara Maou mo Taoseru kamo Shirenai. Another fantasy anime on summer and this one is rather relaxing, thriving on giving us a great story than edgy action-packed animation.
Astra Lost in Space
Premiere: July 3, 2019
Studio: Lerche
Kanata no Astra. An upcoming anime adaptation of a popular manga which is known for having the same type of powerful narration as Attack on Titan, and The Promised Neverland. Astra Lost in Space is a pump up adrenaline story of excitement and survival. I personally believe that this anime could be a dark horse next season and may potentially take the Anime of the Season title due to how awesome its pure storytelling is.
Naka no Hito Genome [Jikkyouchuu]
Premiere: July 7, 2019
Studio: Silver Link.
This is another game of death anime that will cover our summer season with darker emotions and the quest for survival. This could be a great psychological anime to follow on summer, an early preparation for the upcoming Psycho-Pass Season 3 which is slated on fall 2019 lineup. Nonetheless, Naka no Hito Genome seems to have what it takes to give us an exciting experience of drama and thrill.
To the Abandoned Sacred Beasts
Premiere: July 1, 2019
Studio: MAPPA
Katsute Kami Datta Kemono-tachi e. This one is a rather exciting fantasy shounen anime which is pretty fun to follow. It is quite cliché though as it features the humans vs. monsters theme which is very rampant in other anime works too. However, no matter how generic the story might be, a great factor to consider is how well the animation and story’s execution could be as it may either make it or break it for an anime show. And I believe that To the Abandoned Sacred Beasts could be an exciting ride, though hopefully, it won’t follow the same footsteps as Sirius the Jaeger.
Try Knights
Premiere: July 2019
Studio: Gonzo
A pretty decent story for a sports anime. Gonzo is back once again and I am hoping that we’ll get something better from them this time around just like the good old days. Try Knights is a story of two young people whose heart had been captivated by sports. Personally, I really feel great to have another exciting Josei airing this summer as something new and fresh to follow.
Gorgeous Butterfly: Young Nobunaga
Premiere: July 8, 2019
Studio: DEEN
Kochouki: Wakaki Nobunaga. We finally have an original anime here in our list and it truly is amazing to see something new coming out from a historical drama genre. Yes, you read it right, Gorgeous Butterfly: Young Nobunaga tells us the drama of the youthful days of one of most powerful person in Japanese history. This is a bold adaptation of the life of Oda Nobunaga in his teens together with his brother Nobuyuki showing us a part which we had never seen before about the powerful warlord.
Lord El-Melloi II Case Files: Rail Zeppelin Grace Note
Premiere: July 7, 2019
Studio: TROYCA
Lord El-Melloi II Sei no Jikenbo: Rail Zeppelin Grace Note. A mystery-fantasy anime, this anime is a rather peculiar one that I badly want to see. The first part of the anime will be an original once while the latter half will be based on the original light novel on which it’ll be adapted. A game for survival, this anime will definitely going to be next season’s grand battle royal and I just wish that what they in store for the viewers will be as amazing as its original source material.
Will you please like hentai if it’s cute?
Premiere: July 8, 2019
Studio: Seven x Geek Toys
Kawaikereba Hentai demo Suki ni Natte Kuremasu ka? And here’s another harem and a naughty one. This could be one of the funniest anime next season and it couldn’t be more amazing and funny than a combination of comedy and hentai altogether. Can this be another Quintessential Quintuplets? I’m not sure but it could be a hilarious ride this summer that every harem fans could enjoy.
Aside from new anime shows, we also have the leftover anime series from spring 2019 lineup and some of them will definitely give summer 2019 a great competition. So, let’s take a look which anime from spring season continues its run to summer.
Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba
Delving deeper into the conspiracy of the existence of demons in the world, I am really happy that ufotable is giving us a great shot to Demon Slayer. Given the time to grow and develop its story, Demon Slayer could be a potential Anime of the Year for 2019. So what to expect this summer from the anime is definitely the appearance of the other pillars of Demon Hunters and the arrival of more demons. Obviously, a clash between Tanjirou and Muzan Kibutsuji is going to happen, but I want to see more of Nezuko’s growth and to see the other members of Tanjirou’s company.
Fruits Basket (2019)
Another great anime continuing its run on summer is Fruits Basket and I felt like we’ll have teary eyes and a heartbreak anytime soon even if the summer season is truly hot. We’ll get to know more about the Soma family and also this mysterious Akito. Nonetheless, Tohru sure is a great contender for Anime Girl of the Year for 2019, isn’t she?
Carole & Tuesday
Yes! The exciting adventure of Carole & Tuesday continues and I couldn’t wait anymore how this duo will take over Mars with a storm through their music and soul.
YU-NO: A girl who chants love at the bound of this world.
I am still not seriously convinced with this anime but I think having it continue on summer simply gives it more time to evolve and finally unveiled a better side of itself. I have mixed thoughts about YU-NO: A girl who chants love at the bound of this world. and I’ll be more than happy if its continuation will prove me wrong and show me that there’s more to it than what I have seen so far.
Ace of Diamond Act II
This classic continues its run to summer and simply keeps on showing that it is one of the best sports anime this year.
We also have tons of interesting anime movies coming this summer of 2019 such as the following:
KonoSuba Movie – Kazuma and his gang of unfortunate ladies were back once again and will give us another hilarious trip this summer. I could vouch that KonoSuba Movie could be the funniest film next season.
Tenki no Ko: Weathering With You – Makoto Shinkai is back and there’s no doubt that his new film is the biggest name among movies this year. With the success of Your Name., Makoto Shinkai’s reputation had been cosmic on which fans will and could expect for godlike animation on any of his new works which include the upcoming Tenki no Ko slated to premiere on July 19.

Seishun Buta Yarou wa Yumemiru Shoujo no Yume wo Minai Movie – One of the best romance anime of 2018 is coming back and it’s going to be romantic and complex than ever.
Youjo Senki Movie – Oh, Tanya the Devil is back and we sure are excited to see her wreak havoc on her way. This amazing military anime with cute little demon girl on top of it will give us an exciting and fascinating experience filled with action, magic, and insanity.
One Piece: Stampede – I don’t think I should say any more about this, we’re all familiar with One Piece and we all know how powerful and influential it is. By simply looking at numbers, we could tell that One Piece: Stampede will make 2019 an exciting one to remember for One Piece fans especially that its anime series is also entering its highly anticipated Wano Kuni Arc.
Ride your wave – another beautiful anime movie to watch out for this summer. It reminds me of Studio Ghibli works and Mamoru Hosoda films, and I believe it will also perfectly suits the taste of anime fans who love Makoto Shinkai.
The King’s Avatar: For the Glory Movie – So, the biggest Chinese anime of today is here and aside from The King’s Avatar season 2, the series also gets a prequel movie which is scheduled for release August 16.
Children of the Sea – This anime movie reminds me of Children of the Whales, one of the most beautiful anime of 2017. I could feel Studio Ghibli vibes here and it truly looks amazing and wonderful – both visually stunning and emotionally heavy.
So that ends our list of must-watch anime from summer 2019 lineup, which one is your favorite and you’re excited to see next season? Please let me know by leaving a comment below.
