Kono Oto Tomare!’s deliquent heartthrob – Chika Kudo |
It’s finally here. The spring 2019 anime lineup had officially kicked off two weeks ago and I am seriously shock in awe with how amazing this lineup is. Yeah, this is kind of a bold remarks especially that the season just started with only one or two episodes out yet. However, the quality of animation, the stunning story, good acting, the feels, and awesome visuals were simply enough to satisfy me and made me crave for more – and spring 2019 anime lineup successfully fit on it.

In line with this, I came up with this weekly anime chart by Yu Alexius Anime Portal that I shall post on our blog’s Facebook page as well as other social outlets to share our thoughts on the best anime that aired on that specific week. Furthermore, a short comments about these anime shows shall be posted here in our blog, featuring the anime shows of the season with the best episode that aired in every week. So, let’s start our list for Spring 2019 best nime – Week 1 as follows:.
Kono Oto Tomare! (Stop This Sound!) Episode 1 “New Club Members”
![]() |
Kudo and Kurata having an argument |
My first thought about Kono Oto Tomare! is that why do we have another ‘four-glass’ senpai here? Nonetheless, the anime really started strong and gave us an amazing opening although I felt bad not having the chance to listen to the sound of the Koto in the very first episode. Anyway, the opening theme is catchy and fun to listen at. The characters were seriously interesting and I wish to befriend them if they happened to exist in real life. I felt some kind of de javu with Kurata, I mean I had been in his shoes and really shares a lot of similarities with him like messing up in the most important moment. Kudo is such a boyfriend material (said by Irish) and yes, having a bad boy join the Koto Club makes the plot even more exciting. I say the anime itself is promising and didn’t left behind with the great reception of the manga and with decent animation and story pacing as well as consistent quality visuals and animation – this could be a potential anime of the year. Story-wise, I felt like I am meeting a long time friend while watching Kono Oto Tomare! with some life advises, In the end, this anime really feels so good for the heart and produced positive ambiance in general. Not to mention, I could see a little similarity between Kono Oto Tomare! and my favorite Kids on the Slope.
Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba Episode 1 “Cruelty”

Nezuko protecting Tanjirou |
On our 2nd spot is actually my personal favorite and my most anticipated anime of the season – Demon Slayer. Ufotable is back at it again, giving us an quality animation which is visually aesthetic and feels like a great piece of art. I think one of the strongest point of Kimetsu no Yaiba aside from its beautiful animation is the cast acting. The moment that I heard Tanjiro’s intense dramatic scene in the first episode of Demon Slayer, I did have a goosebumps. Too much emotion in those span of time and it really feels heavy and bursting out. The fight scenes is beyond beautiful with visuals that really looks stunning. Maybe what this episode lacking is more fight scenes but I think it’s acceptable since it is still building the story and setting up the ambiance for the show.
Fruits Basket (2019) Episode 1 “I’m Going”
![]() |
Fruits Basket heroine – Tohru Honda |
This is my first time to set my sight upon this masterpiece as I wasn’t able to watch the original anime. However, I’ll say the reboot is truly an amazing one with beautiful animation, visuals and character designs. What I love about Fruits Basket remake is that the story is still heavily invested with bursting emotions and heartfelt scenes.
Magmel of the Sea Blue Episode 1
![]() |
The rescuer Inyou rescuing a lost soul |
Here’s one of my personal favorite, I think Inyou is kind of overwhelming here. The plot is quite interesting and the animation is decently done. What really puzzles me is the intriguing world of Magmel – yeah the new continent that appeared and is more mysterious than any ambiguity. I am craving to learn more about it – its ecosystem, secrets and origin.
Carole and Tuesday Episode 1″True Colors”
![]() |
Carole and Tuesday’s first IG post |
Occupying our fifth place is the relaxing and fun story of Carole and Tuesday. This is rather girly show but definitely amazing. The animation is very beautiful with astounding visuals for a futuristic story set in Mars. The plot may be cliche but executed beautifully, and there’s the music – probably the anime’s strongest point aside from its theme which revolves around friendship and dreams. Oh my, many viewers will surely relate themselves with these two adorable ladies we have here.
One Punch Man Season 2 Episode 1 “The Hero’s Return”
![]() |
Saitama with a hair in his first encounter with King |
We have one of the biggest anime title of the year on the 6th place. Well, the season simply started and we still have several weeks for Saitama sensei to punch his way up to the top. It just really happened that One Punch Man season 2 first episode is above average but were outrank by those anime titles that I had mentioned above. This anime is always energetic as ever and hilarious as always. Aside from the fact that the animation had dropped but it wasn’t that bad and I think J.C. Staff is doing just fine animating the anime from MadHouse.
Bungou Stray Dogs Season 3 Episode 1 “Dazai, Chuuya, Fifteen Years Old”
![]() |
Chuya and Dazai first meeting |
Dazai and the rest of the gang is back with Bungou Stray Dogs third season. After the fun ride from Bungou Stray Dogs Movie: Dead Apple, I think the anime had returned with a strong plot and may take us back to Dazai days in the Port Mafia. In fact, we did received 2 episodes in the anime’s season 3 premiere and I am seriously delighted with. One is simply showing us Doppo and how great of a leader material is. Meanwhile, the second revealed the first encounter between Dazai and his old colleague from Port Mafia, Chuya.
Fairy Gone Episode 1 “Ash Covered Girl”
![]() |
Free Underbar and his fairy in action |
Alright, so here’s another anime that I am seriously excited to watch but I felt a little bit disappointed. It’s not bad but I felt like I wasn’t satisfied with its first episode. The music is really amazing and definitely one of its strongest element while the animation is beautifully done – something I should expect from P.A. Works. The action part of Fair Gone is top-notch but maybe I’m still craving for more that’s why I felt like ranting a little bit here. Nonetheless, the anime is very promising and I just only wish it won’t be the same as Sirius the Jaeger which ended half-heartedly.
Magi’s Grandson Episode 1 “A Babe in the Woods Goes to the Capital”
![]() |
Shin Walford showing his genius |
If this anime may really feel so familiar with you, then I just had the same de javu that I always encounter with isekai genre. Yeah, Magi’s Grandson gave me a That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime version 2.0 ambiance but somehow I think it’s too early to judge the anime. Nonetheless, I am loving this anime because once again, we having a very OP main character and the animation isn’t bad either. There are interesting characters and the plot also looks promising.
Midnight Occult Civil Servants “Angels and Tengu Above the Shinjuku Skyline”
![]() |
Shinjuku Ward Office’s Nighttime Regional Relations Department staffs on duty |
This is an anime that I think is pretty average and could stay on the safe place as long as it doesn’t gets bad. The animation and its story in general is good and to be fair I did enjoy its concept. The main character is quite interesting as well as his colleages. In fact, Midnight Occult Civil Servants reminded me of Hakata Tonkotsu Ramens which aired last January 2018 and I love this similarity on their ambiance.
That ends our list of 10 best anime of spring 2019 week 1. However, among our honorable mentions this week were Bokuben (We Never Learn) – I so love this and the humor is on point. Hachigatsu no Cinderella Nine also up for a good start as well as Shoumetsu no Toshi and Senryuu Girl.
So, which anime this spring caught your attention? Please let us know by leaving a comment below.
