The all-new original story for the Sword Art Online film adaptation has been revealed by the December issue of Kadokawa’s Dengeki G’s Comic magazine last Friday – October 30, 2015. In the magazine, it was unveiled that the story will take place right after the Mother’s Rosario arc from the Sword Art Online II TV anime, which was the final arc featured in the series.
In the original light novel series of Reki Kawahara’s Sword Art Online, Mother’s Rosarioc arc covers the volume 7 of the series. On the other hand, the Calibur arc which was depicted in the second half of Sword Art Online II took place in volume 8 of the series but aired before the Mother’s Rosario arc in the anime.
The story for Sword Art Online anime film is a completely new and original written by Kawahara. The film will be directed by Tomohiko Ito who directed the two TV anime adaptation and the anime special of Sword Art Online. Meanwhile, Shingo Adachi also returns to design the characters of the film.
Sword Art Online light novel series inspire two TV anime series which became phenomenal especially the first season. In addition, the Sword Art Online: Extra Edition TV special in 2013 and several manga adaptations and spinoffs as well as three video games only proves how popular is the franchise in today’s generation of anime fans.
